Children’s Summer Reading Kick-Off
Dunk a Librarian Booth, Music and Free Hot Dogs

WHAT : Oakland Public Library’s Summer Reading Kick-Off Party features entertainment, games, food, and a chance to Dunk the Librarian! Kids who sign up for the annual Summer Reading Game, “Catch the Reading Bug,” will get a free hot dog or veggie dog.
WHO : Prescott Clowns, Teng Fei Lion Dancers, LaRazaFarians reggae band, live D.J. music, courageous librarians, including the library’s Associate Director, willing to “take the plunge” all in the name of good fun!
WHY : The public library is the place to be during those long summer months where kids are Free2 enjoy, explore and learn. We offer special events and a chance to win prizes for those who play the Summer Reading Game beginning June 7.
WHEN : Saturday, May 31, 2008, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
WHERE : Oakland Main Library – Children’s Room & Outdoor Courtyard 125 14th Street (at Oak Street)
(Oakland, CA.) – Join Oakland Public Library staff as we launch our annual Summer Reading Game, “Catch the Reading Bug,” at our free kick-off party. This year’s Summer Reading Game will take place June 7 – August 9, 2008 for ages 13 and under. The Main Library’s kick-off event has a fun twist this year with a Dunk the Librarian booth! In addition, there’s plenty of activities going on with games, music, the Prescott Clowns and the Teng Fei Lion Dancers on hand to entertain the young and the young at heart. Kids who sign up for the Summer Reading Game on this day will get a free hot dog or veggie dog.
