Position Details:

 Senior Library Assistant, Tool and Equipment Selective Certification

Exempt Part-Time Positions (On-call, Non-benefitted, Non-Civil Service)

Thank you for your interest in obtaining on-call, exempt part-time, non-civil service, non-benefitted employment with the Oakland Public Library and the City of Oakland. Interested candidates can check with library staff for application materials for the Library Aide and Librarian I classifications, and/or continue to visit our website for future temporary part-time employment opportunities.

Civil Service Positions (Full-time and Permanent Part-Time)

Interested applicants can go to the City of Oakland Employment Opportunities webpage for opportunities to apply for regular full-time and permanent part-time positions at the Library and in other City departments. Applicants will need to follow the specific directions outlined on the City's Employment Opportunities webpage to apply for benefitted, civil service employment. Successful applicants who qualify and participate in the respective stages of the exam process will be ranked and placed on an active eligible list of candidates. An eligible list remains active for a minimum time period of one year and is regulated by the City of Oakland's Civil Service Rules. When a vacancy occurs while you are ranked on an active eligible list, you may be called to interview for that specific position. The City of Oakland utilizes an on-line employment application program and interested applicants are highly encouraged to apply for available vacancies online. General Information

The Oakland Public Library's Financial & Administrative Services Office is located in the Main Library on the 2nd floor and we are open to library patrons from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, and from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on Wednesdays-Fridays. We are closed on Saturdays & Sundays.

Oakland Public Library exempt part-time application materials can only be obtained when the library has an active exempt part-time recruitment, and would be available at any Oakland neighborhood branch or at the Main Library during the recruitment period. The Financial & Administrative Services Office does not maintain a list of library exempt part-time vacancies. Hiring supervisors review application materials during an active recruitment and may invite successful applicants to an interview. An exempt part-time non-benefited position , non-civil service position with the Oakland Public Library may afford successful applicants the opportunity to work up to a maximum of 950 hours per fiscal year depending on the budget and operational needs. The exempt part-time positions that we may actively recruit and accept application materials for are Library Aide, Library Assistant, Librarian I & Librarian II.

Applications that are accepted and received by the Financial & Administrative Services Office will be retained for 6 months. Interested applicants must complete and submit another application after the 6-month timeframe has expired, and during an active exempt part-time recruitment.
