Tiago! Tiago is 3 years old and goes to the Piedmont Avenue Branch when he wants to find good book. He's not all that fond of getting his picture taken but loves the glow-in-the- dark Fairyland key he received as part of his prize. In addition to the glow-in-the-dark key, he also won a Fairyland family membership. Congratulations Tiago!
Every child who played the game got to choose a book to keep and received a packet of coupons and a chance to win in this raffle.
Of course, the real prize was the time he and every player spent reading, singing, talking, playing, and writing with friends and family during the summer.
Clifford came by and offered to help us select the winner. He picked Tiago's card out of the almost 1,000 completed cards we received from children this summer.
We added the Pre-Reader Game this year to make it easier for parents with children 0-4. The kids received a card of the Oakland skyline, kids' style, and got to add a star sticker for every day someone talked, read, sang, played, or wrote with them. We were thrilled to able to make the game cards available in four languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, and Spanish.
Kids ages 5 and up also played our traditional Kids' Summer Reading, and over 5,000 kids read 20 or more days and were entered into a raffle for an ipad. The winner of the iPad was Marianna Mascorro, at the Melrose Branch.
Oakland Public Library's Summer Reading game is over now, but you can play again next summer. And don't forget to play Winter Bingo with us over the winter holidays!
