Tonight (8/6/13) is National Night Out and all over the country people will gather with neighbors to promote community. Just here in Oakland there will be over 100 block parties tonight, and 6 of them are taking place outside of Oakland Public Library branches! Stop by and say hi to your friendly library staff and your fellow library lovers. Turn your neighbors into friends!
The 81st Avenue Branch's party will be happening between 6 and 8:30pm and features food, fun and live music.
Snacks, games, an outdoor storytime and lots of sidewalk chalk will be found at the Lakeview Branch between 6 and 7:30pm.
At the Melrose Branch you can watch a movie and play some games starting at 5pm.
Head over to the Piedmont Avenue Branch between 5:30 and 7:30pm. There'll be ice cream.
The party at the Temescal Branch features a performance of Americana by the Union Point Rounders and begins at 6:30pm.
And a special treat - whoever makes it to the most library National Nights Out (and proves it by taking a picture at each one) will get a fine prize from me! Leave a comment and let me know how many you made it to! 1? 2? 3? 6?
I, along with some other library employees, will be visiting National Night Out parties around the city just saying hi representing the City of Oakland. Maybe I'll see you out there somewhere!
