John Brown Photo Chronology by Jean Libby

Photo of John Brown

Join us for this special event featuring the research of Jean Libby on the martyred abolitionist John Brown.

A series of 16x20 Brown portraits (displayed in chronological order) allows Libby to expound upon the evolving symbolism inherent in the messianic portrayal of John Brown as interpreted by the artists who painted them. Attendees to the workshop will have the opportunity to provide verbal and written commentary on the portraits or any other aspect of John Brown's life with Jean Libby.

Jean Libby is a retired instructor of United States History and Ethnic Studues at Community Colleges in Northern California. She has written, editied and photographed widely on John Brown the abolitionist since 1978.
