Meet and Ride with author Elly Blue!
Read a book, ride a bike, and help make Oakland a better place!
Oakland Public Library has joined the Book to Action program, a California statewide book club that includes helping your community. We will read “Everyday Bicycling” by Elly Blue, and you can meet the author on Saturday, May 10, 2014. Join Elly at the Chavez Branch at 10:15 AM for some tips on group rides. Then ride with Elly up the beautiful Bay Trail to the 81st Avenue Branch, where she will give a talk at noon. You can buy a copy of “Everyday Bicycling” and Elly’s other books about biking and get her autograph. To find out more about Elly Blue and her books, check out her blog at http://takingthelane.com/blog/. A light lunch will be provided, courtesy of the Friends of the Oakland Public Library.
And there’s more: Oakland Public Library is working with local bike shops to get library users the bike gear you need to keep safe. Show your library card at participating stores from May 1, 2014 through May 31, 2014 and get 10% off parts and accessories. Please check this page for a full list of participating stores.
Book to Action is supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
