Film screening: Wadjda

Image of girl wearing headscarf, standing and looking at bicycles

WADJDA is a 10-year-old girl living in a suburb of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Wadjda is fun loving, an entrepreneur and always pushing the boundaries of what she can get away with. She sees a beautiful green bicycle for sale in her neighborhood, and decides she will try to raise the money to buy it herself. But Wadjda's mother won't allow it, fearing repercussions from a society that sees biking as inappropriate for girls.

Will Wadjda succeed in raising the money by herself and getting a new bike? Join us for this movie, the first feature-length film directed by a Saudi woman.

Co-presented by Bike East Bay as part of the Women Bike Book Club. All are welcome!
