Eye from the Edge: A Memoir of West Oakland

The Friends of the Oakland History Room present Ruben Llamas, whose Eye from the Edge depicts the American melting pot with sizzle and swing. A West Oakland native, Mr. Llamas brings wartime Seventh Street to life in his memoir of coming of age in a neighborhood that was multi-cultural before there was a word for it.  Experience West Oakland’s colorful characters from the barbershop to the music store to the waterfront and be young and fancy-free in the ‘40s.
