Life in Chaos: Working with Refugees Abroad, with Lexine Alpert
Come join North Oaklander Lexine Alpert describe in an illustrated lecture her five-months' work with refugees from the violence of revolt in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq and from the climate crisis facing nations such as Somalia and Cameroon. Alpert has retired from a long career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, most recently with Kaiser Permanente, and has since gone to Greece to volunteer with residents of Moria Camp on the island of Lesbos and with other refugees in Athens. There her work has focused on unaccompanied minors: children who’ve lost their parents to armed conflict or along the way in their flight abroad.
