Celebrate the start of summer reading at the West Oakland Branch Summer Kick-Off Party for All Ages! Join us for:

  • BIKES! Bring your own bike and decorate your spokes with Tyrone "Baybe Champ" Stevenson, the Scraper Bike King! Tyrone will give pointers on making spinners that are truly eye-catching, just in time for summer rides (while supplies last). Want some inspiration in advance? Visit the accompanying Scraper Bike Art Exhibit at the Main Library TeenZone, on display now. Better yet, organize your own family-friendly bike ride over to the event! Join the Main-to-West Bike Caravan! Bike riders will meet up at 1:00pm on the day of event at the Main Library, corner of 14th and Oak Streets, just behind the bus stop. Look for the bicycle signs! Riders will leave for West Oakland Library at 1:30pm sharp.

  • BUBBLES! Kids of all ages will have a chance to blow bubbles big and small.

  • BOOKS! And of course it wouldn't be a kick-off without a chance to sign up for our Summer Reading and Teen Passport programs. Read, explore, win prizes!

All ages welcome.
