With a sweet attentiveness to pop culture and driven by her alternative roots, San Francisco-born L. Herrada-Rios takes to a camera as if it were an extra limb. Finding the dark humor in the mundane and the warmth in the strangers around her, L. uses her diverse training as well as her genuine enthusiasm for the world to capture life’s follies and everyday triumphs.
L. enjoys covering local happenings that “...keep the human spirit alive”. Traditional and thoughtfully experimental techniques help capture L.’s point of view in a variety of mediums. She is always exploring inside and outside of her communities for inspiration and is always eager to engage her creativity. Her curatorial work as well as her recent ascendance into collages further motivate her to look at the world with fresh eyes; L. truly believes that there is beauty in all of the human experience.
L. can often be found exploring museums, scouring comic book joints, and scribbling random musings. She hopes that her images and mixed media works will bridge the gap between the whimsy of nostalgia and the ambiance of youth that inhabits us all.
