Oakland Public Library and Oakland Museum Team Up to Celebrate with Young Summer Readers
Oakland, CA – It’s fun for the entire family as the Oakland Public Library’s Summer Reading Program draws to a close with a big party at the Oakland Museum of California on Sunday, August 5, from 12 to 4 p.m. The party will take place in the Museum Gardens, 1000 Oak Street.
The celebration links two fantastic summer events—the library’s Summer Reading Program and the Oakland Museum of California’s Free First Sundays—for a double dose of culture, entertainment, fun, and learning. Admission is free!
Entertainment and activities will include performers from Circus Bella, games with Oakland Parks and Recreation, storytime, hands-on arts and craft activities, face painting, and more!
And, to give credit where it’s due, the library will conduct a ceremony to honor all Summer Reading Program participants who succeeded in reading eight hours or more this summer.
The 2012 Summer Reading Program has been a popular and fun way to encourage young library patrons to explore world cultures through reading and fun activities. This year’s theme has been “Dream Big – Read.” Participants have benefitted not only from the pleasure of reading, but also from a summer’s worth of free events.
The Oakland Public Library Summer Reading Program is supported by grants from Friends of the Oakland Public Library, The Stocker Foundation, The Bernard Osher Foundation, William G. Gilmore Foundation, and The Union Pacific Foundation. The Oakland Museum of California’s Free First Sundays are made possible by Wells Fargo.
