Scream for Ice Scream Sandwiches at Dimond and Montclair Branch Libraries in June and July
Here’s another reason why Reading is Soooooo Delicious! Jennie Schacht, author of I Scream Sandwich!, will make two appearances at Oakland Public Library locations to share creative ideas for fun summer snacks involving ice cream. Ms. Schacht will first appear at the Dimond Branch Library, 3565 Fruitvale Ave., on Saturday, June 29, at 1 pm. She will also appear at the Montclair Branch Library, 1687 Mountain Blvd., on Tuesday, July 16, at 6 pm.
Jennie Schacht is a culinary writer and consultant based in Oakland. She is the author of Farmers’ Market Desserts, and co-author of The Wine Lover’s Dessert Cookbook, Without Reservations, Sweet & Skinny, the forthcoming Southern Italian Desserts, and other works.
In I Scream Sandwich!, Ms. Schacht redefines this hugely popular sweet treat and shows how it can easily be the star of a dinner party, child’s birthday bash, family picnic, or just a lazy summer afternoon. The book includes 40 ice cream sandwich recipes, from tried and true classics to exotic new combinations such as kaffir lime and lemongrass sorbet on five-spice cookies. The book has easy instructions and endless variations, along with ideas to inspire you come up with your own creative combinations. A free, refreshing snack will be offered to all who attend these events!
In addition to these two programs, the Oakland Public Library will have a summer’s worth of fun events celebrating reading and food, as part of the Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is Reading is Soooooo Delicous!
