Step into National Poetry Month at the Oakland Public Library
The Oakland Public Library (OPL) will be celebrating National Poetry Month in April 2014 with an exciting building-wide display at the Main Library, 125 14th Street, in downtown Oakland.
Climbing the building’s stairs will generate a new experience as poems will be displayed on all of the staircases, giving visitors to the library a chance to experience poetry as they move from floor to floor. Posters of concrete poetry, where the shape or design of the poem is informed by the content, will also be on display. Everyone is invited to immerse themselves in poetry from the library’s top floor to the basement level.
The featured poems include those by the Oakland Youth Poet Laureates (oaklandlibrary.org/youth-poet-laureates), in celebration of the April 7 deadline for the citywide contest. Other featured poets include celebrated children’s poets and California poets including CA Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera.
