Comedic Writer Nate Dern Discussing New Book at Montclair Branch Library
On Tuesday, October 17, 6:30 p.m., the Oakland Public Library’s Montclair Branch, 1687 Mountain Blvd., will host Nate Dern, senior writer at Funny Or Die, discussing his new book, Not Quite a Genius. This collection of absurdist and hilarious stories and essays covers a variety of contemporary topics from relationships, technology and modern society. Dating apps, man buns, juicing crazes are all fodder for his sharp wit and humor.
According to A.J. Jacobs, author of Drop Dead Healthy, “Nate Dern’s brain is a VitaMix that chops up Kafka, the Internet, Republicans and thousands of other cultural ingredients and blends them into hilarious little treats. The results are not just funny – which they are – but they’re even kind of profound. Highly recommended reading for those hungry for surprise.”
Besides his work at Funny Or Die, Nate Dern is also an actor who has appeared in the Paolo Sorrentino film, Youth, and the TV shows Boardwalk Empire and Gossip Girl. He was the former artistic director of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City and currently resides in Los Angeles.
Not Quite a Genius is Nate Dern’s first book and copies will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of A Great Good Place for Books.
