For safety reasons, libraries close when the inside temperature reaches 87 degrees. In the coming hot days, call ahead or check back here to make sure your branch is open!

For inclusion in the library collection, all work must meet the Library’s selection criteria as detailed in the Library’s Collection Development Policy.
Whenever possible the library purchases material through established vendors such as Baker & Taylor, Brodart, Ingram, and Small Press Distribution.
Some works, especially longer works or works of non-fiction, may not be considered without accompanying reviews. The Library relies in part on reviews when making selection decisions. Our preferred professional review sources include Bayviews, Booklist, Foreword, Horn Book Magazine, Kirkus, Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, School Library Journal, and VOYA, but other review sources like newspapers are also valuable in evaluating material for purchase. It is up to local authors to solicit reviews for their works.
Local authors or publishers may reserve a room at the Library for their own programs, subject to the Oakland Public Library’s Meeting Room Policy.
