Oakland Public Library staff are frequently out in the community, providing extensive outreach services and programs. The OPL Bike Library is a nimble outreach vehicle – a bike powered bookmobile – and allows for additional programming support for such outreach efforts by supporting online library card registrations, materials check-out, and demonstrations of online services such as ebooks and databases.

The OPL Bike Library was designed by local builder, Kick Trailer in late summer, 2013. It features two sides of cascading bookshelves to display books face-out while in motion, a custom shelf for a Bluetooth speaker, and the pyramid structure itself opens up for storage and load carrying capacity.
We’re hoping to send out the trailer to more events. Please contact Mana Tominaga, Main Supervising Librarian, at 510-238-6611 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in hosting the OPL Bike Library at your upcoming event.
