Attention - Beginning December 1st, Oakland Public Library will no longer mail hold pickup/cancellation notices. In order to receive information about your holds, please make sure we have your current email or phone number. This change is more environmentally friendly and will reduce mailing costs. Thank you for your cooperation.
Most library materials are checked out for 3 weeks. All videotapes, DVDs, and some popular books circulate for 7 days.
You may renew most items one time unless someone else has placed a hold on that item. DVDs cannot be renewed. Once you have returned an item, you must wait one day before checking the same item out again.
You may have a total of 40 items checked out at any one time. Within that total, the number of any particular type of items may be limited, depending on type of material, subject, and local demand.
If your fines surpass $12.50, you will not be able to check out or place holds on any items.
New patrons will initially be limited to a total of two items checked out at any one time.
Status will be changed from new when all items have been returned on time and there is a balance of $5.00 or less in charges on the account.
Returning Library Materials
All circulating Library materials, except tools, may be returned to any branch or book drop of the Oakland Public Library.
Materials returned to other public library systems are not considered returned until they are checked in by the Oakland Public Library. Fines will be charged for overdue items.
