Clubs for Book Lovers at OPL

Have you ever thought about joining a book club?

Oakland Public Library currently hosts a number of different book clubs. If you'd like to join in, here's some information to get you started.

Rockridge Branch has a book club meeting on the second Saturday of every month at 3PM. Upcoming books will be Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi on March 9 and The Undoing Project by Michael Lewis on April 13. Dimond Branch has a book club meeting on the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30PM. Book picks alternate between fiction and nonfiction. Their March book is The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen and their April book is Educated by Tara Westover. During the summer they also do a short story read aloud. Golden Gate Branch hosts the Women Bike Book Club on the first Thursday of the month at 6PM. Their March 7 meeting met at Paradise Park Cafe but usually they meet at the Golden Gate branch. Club de Lectura en Español meets on the second Saturday of every month at the César E. Chávez Branch. This Saturday they’ll be discussing Sangre en el ojo by Lina Meruane, and in the following months they will be reading Cien años de soledad by Gabriel Garcia Marquez—the first half of the book in April and the second half in May (sometimes they do this for extra lengthy novels). Folkland Book Club meets at the Main Library on the last Wednesday of every month at 6PM. Book club books are available for free courtesy of Small Press Distribution. Lakeview Branch hosts a book club meeting on the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30PM. At the March 19 meeting they’ll be discussing Educated by Tara Westover and on April 16 the book will be Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson. The Main Library will also be hosting a one-time book club in conjunction with the Cameron-Stanford House featuring the book Franklina C. Gray: The Grand Tour, followed by a free tour of the Camron-Stanford house and the opportunity to see the original documents on exhibit.
