Oakland is home to many talented artists. You can see this reflected in the City's streets through Oakland murals and the downtown street art that has been created in the last few weeks in solidarity with Black Lives Matter.
During the past three months of sheltering in place, The Oakland Museum of California has created The Oakland Museum at Home, featuring online exhibits for Black Power, Dorothea Lange: Photography as Activism and You are Here: California Stories on the Map.
And of course your Oakland Public Library has plenty of art books to help you find your creative expression. Here is a collection of books on political and protest art, a sampling of books to help you make art, and a selection of artist biographies and memoirs published during the past few years in both print and electronic formats. Now that we've started curbside pick-up at five of our branches, books may be placed on hold once again! Happy reading and creating!
