Celebrating Oakland's Rich Multicultural Arts: The Legacy of the Malonga Casquelourd Center

Come to the Oakland Public Library Main now until December 1 to “Give Praise to Life”.  The event features:

The Malonga Center Community Ancestral Installation - If you have never been to “the Malonga” you’re missing out on a historical Oakland jewel. Since the 1920s, this grand building has been the go to place for theatre, special events, multicultural arts, classes and more.  Check out their website http://mccatheater.com/

The Malonga Center, formerly known as the Alice Arts Center, was renamed for renowned African choreographer, dancer, musician, singer, actor and teacher Malonga Casquelourd. The Malonga Center Community Installation pays homage to the late Malonga and other dearly departed artists who enriched the Bay Area’scultural landscape at the Malonga.

Learn how you can research your family history in an insightful ancestry workshop on Sunday, November 26, 3:00 – 4:30 (Bradley C. Walters Auditorium).  Workshops lead by #nzoCALIFAncestry. Deeply moved by this

Deeply moved by this beautiful and sacred ancestral tribute to the Malonga Center community and my father, Malonga Casquelourd. Very pleased that the Oakland Public Library would partner with powerful change agent #KongoSQWest and offer its platform to elevate the voices and stories that make Oakland so special. I look to forward to more dynamic and meaningful programming such as this at OPL.
