CANCELLED: Who's Your Neighbor? Creating Community at the Library: Mexican Tin Art

Tin Art

Join us for the second program in our series, Who's Your Neighbor?: Creating Community at the Library. Oakland native artist Rachel-Anne Palacios will lead a workshop in reujado. You'll learn how to create tin art inspired by repujado and hojalata traditionally created in Guanajuato and Oaxaca, Mexico. After a brief history of the cultural practice and demonstration of techniques, you'll emboss your own designs or pre-drawn patterns onto tooling aluminum. We'll also share treats from Peña's bakery and enjoy a conversation about creating art. Adults, teens and children are all welcome to participate.

Rachel-Anne Palacios is a self-taught, multicultural artist. Her pieces reflect the respect she has for culture, religion, traditional values, elders, and the cycle of life and death.

This event is made possible by the friends of the Oakland Public Library.
