Family Storytime with Michael Wertz and Kamaria Lofton

Michael Wertz and Friend

Book creators Michael Wertz and Kamaria Lofton will lead children and families in a romping storytime all about Oakland. A reception highlighting the work of both authors will take place on the first floor of the Main Library at 4:00 p.m.

Michael is the author of ABC Oakland and, with author Betsy Franco, illustrator of A Curious Collection of Cats and A Dazzling Display of Dogs. He is a professor of illustration at CCA. Michael lives and works in beautiful Oakland, California with husband Andy and pit-mix Blue. He recently created a new limited edition Children's Fairyland library card for the Oakland Public Library.

Kamaria is the author of the picture books My City is Oakland, Oakland Bird and Gnomes of Oakland. She earned her B.A. in Sacred Music from Patten University and her M.A. in Early Childhood Education from Mills College. An Oakland native, Kamaria now lives in Oakland with her family, where she enjoys taking her young children to all the delightful places she enjoyed as a child.

Michael and Kamaria will have art on display on the first floor of the Main library in May and June. They will also be appearing at this year’s children’s book festival, Turn the Page!, at Children’s Fairyland on May 18th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Co-hosted by our friends at Children's Fairyland. Children's Fairyland has been an Oakland favorite since 1950. The whimsical 10-acre park is a magical fantasy world where young children can create, imagine, play, and learn all day long, located on the shores of Lake Merritt in Oakland, California.
