Join us for a dynamic, youth-driven day of programming about our swiftly transforming city and the role of local history and memory.

Youth Beat journalists with artists marksearch (Sue Mark & Bruce Douglas) will coordinate ‘Neighbors’ Edge’, part of Around the Block: A Day of Neighborhood Stories.

Programming will include:

  • sidewalk interviews
  • spoken word performance
  • a youth panel discussion highlighting the voices of Youth Beat journalists, Oakland Library Youth Poet Laureates and participants of Beat Within
  • zine making

It will all happen on vibrant staging created by marksearch to contextualizes the conversations.

Youth Beat provides free media training to under-served Oakland high school students in journalism, video, editing, and animation.

marksearch designs interactive opportunities for people to publicly share personal histories for empowerment and preservation.
