Schedule a Visit to the Library
Library staff are still available for virtual visits with your school.
Children’s librarians can provide special programs and services when you arrange a visit in advance. Using the form below, please us know if you would like a story time, library orientation, book talk, or research assistance on a specific topic.
You can also invite us to special virtual school events and parents' meetings to talk about library service, highlight books children enjoy, and how to encourage reading in the home.
Please fill out this form to schedule a visit. Requests will be prioritized in the order in which they are received, based on staff capacity and the nature of the request. A library staff member will contact you to confirm the date, time, and details of your virtual visit. Please provide at least two weeks for processing requests.
You and your students can also learn about the library’s resources by viewing our how-to videos on topics such as how to place a book on hold on the Oakland Public Library’s YouTube Channel. Videos are available in English and Spanish.
Library cards are good at any branch of the Oakland Public Library system. There is no charge new or replacement cards. Lost cards do not require a new application; students must be able to provide their address, telephone, and/or birth date, and an email address where they can be reached.
We can help facilitate getting your students library cards. To assist in getting library cards for your students, please email us your students’ names, birthdates and/or phone numbers, and email addresses to email@example.com or submit your roster with the class visit form. Once we receive your request, a staff member will follow-up with you next steps. Library cards will only be issued to each student individually at their personal email address. Due to adjusted staff schedules, we will need at least two weeks to process card requests. Please consider this as you plan your curriculum.
Encourage students to return any overdue library materials they have at home so they can check out new ones! Most materials can be checked out for three weeks and may be renewed for an additional nine weeks - by telephone, online, or in person.
In order to make each child's library experience productive and meaningful, we urge you to check with library staff to make certain that materials are available before assigning a research topic to your students. Materials can be placed on hold for you and your students, and picked up at libraries offering sidewalk service
