Computers for Use by Cardholders

Computer labs at the following locations are available for public use during Sidewalk Service hours: 

  • Golden Gate (Tu.-Sa., 10 AM - 1 PM) (Starting April 5 - M-Sa., 10 AM - 3 PM)

  • Melrose (Tu.-Sa., 10 AM – 1 PM) (Starting April 5 - M-Sa., 10 AM - 3 PM)

  • West Oakland (M-Sa., 10 AM – 3 PM) 

OPL Express

Beginning the week of April 19th the library will be offering OPL Express, including computer use, at many library locations.

Computers are not currently available at:

  • Asian Branch
  • Lakeview Branch
  • Montclair Branch
  • Piedmont Avenue Branch

For all other locations, make a reservation or call the location during open hours to reserve a time slot. 

  • Computer reservations are available for 1 hour.  

We continue to offer Laptop Checkout and mobile printing at a number of OPL locations. 

OPL will abide by all local health guidelines. Here’s what to expect on your visit: 

  • Patrons over the age of two must wear a face mask according to county health orders. The Library will provide face masks to those who do not have one available. 

  • Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver.  

  • Eating and drinking will not be permitted inside the library at this time.   

  • Hand sanitizer will be available at entrances  

  • Sanitizing wipes  will be available for patrons to sanitize shared surfaces  

  • Capacity will be limited 

  • Social distancing must be maintained according to county health orders 

  • Windows and doors will be open to improve natural ventilation.  


All locations with available public computers have black and white printing available.

Color printing is available at 81st Avenue and the Main Library.

Mobile Printing

Our Mobile Printing service allows you to print to a library printer from outside the library or from your mobile device.  This is available at locations with computers for the public and at locations offering sidewalk service. Click here for instructions.

Scanning and Faxing

The following locations have a self-service station for scanning documents:

  • 81st Ave.
  • Brookfield
  • Chavez
  • Dimond
  • Eastmont
  • Elmhurst
  • Rockridge
  • West Oakland
  • Main 

At these locations you are able scan documents to a USB drive, email, fax, and more. The station has a book scanner to scan individual documents and a sheet-fed scanner that quickly scans a stack of documents.

The following library locations offer a simple flatbed scanner for scanning documents: 

  • Golden Gate
  • Melrose
  • Temescal


The Library offers free wireless wifi internet access at all our locations. There are no limits on wireless access, and a library card is not required. You may need to agree to the wifi usage terms. Click here to get started.
