Youth Leadership Council

The YOUTH LEADERSHIP COUNCIL is a youth-driven advisory board for Oakland Public Library. Together, we help the library improve its service to young people, and promote library access and enjoyment among our city's diverse residents.

Why join? YLC members (ages 13-18) gain communication and public speaking skills, self-confidence, leadership experience, ins and outs of event planning, and friends! Directly interact with high level community leaders and participate in local and national functions. Eat! And much more. Check out some of the fun on Flickr.

How to Join

First, drop into one of our monthly meetings: Every 3rd Saturday, 11am-1pm in the Main Library TeenZone, 125 14th Street, 2nd Floor, South Study Room.

Then, pick up a printed application in the TeenZone, or download a copy here.

We'll review your completed application during the next meeting you attend. We encourage you to participate and ask questions during meetings. All new members are voted in by the current YLC.
