For 75 years, Oakland's Main Library has stood at the heart of downtown, a place for learning, connection, and community. Since opening its doors in 1951, Main Library has welcomed generation of Oaklanders, offering free access to books, e-books, programs, WIFI, technology, and opportunity.
In 2026, Oakland Public Library invites the community to celebrate this milestone all year long with special programs, events, and stories that honor the people, memories, and moments that have shaped Main Library into the vibrant hub it is today.
