Oakland Public Library’s Brookfield Branch to Close Temporarily for Infrastructure Upgrades

Oakland Public Library will close its Brookfield Branch for infrastructure upgrades for an estimated 9 months.  The reopening date is to be determined. The last day that the branch will be open to the public is Saturday May 17, 2025. 

This temporary closure is necessary to complete essential repairs and improvements designed to enhance the library's facilities and provide a better experience for patrons.

Upgrades include:

  • External siding replacement
  • Window repair and replacement
  • Clean skylight
  • Electrical upgrades
  • Installation of heat pump cooling/heating system
  • Flexible shelving and new furniture
  • Improvements to lighting, flooring, and ceilings throughout the building

Funding Secured Through Grants and Matching Funds from the City of Oakland

The Oakland Public Library secured funding for these critical repairs through a variety of sources, including The California State Library's Building Forward Library Facilities Improvement Program and Oakland Measure KK.

Alternative Branches and Online Resources Available During Closure

While the Brookfield Branch undergoes upgrades, patrons are encouraged to utilize an alternative nearby Oakland Public Library branch, such as 81st Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr., or Eastmont  and explore the library's extensive online resources at Oaklandlibrary.org
