Sidewalk Pickup at Oakland Public Library to Begin June 19

The Oakland Public Library (OPL) will offer sidewalk pickup of holds for books, DVDs, CDs, and Wi-Fi hotspots at five (5) library locations.

Oakland, CA - The Oakland Public Library (OPL) will offer sidewalk pickup of holds for books, DVDs, CDs, and Wi-Fi hotspots at five (5) library locations starting Friday, June 19, 2020. Indoor areas will remain closed to the public.

Patrons will need to wait until they receive notification (through phone, email, or text) that their hold is ready in order to be able to pick up their materials at a sidewalk pickup location. Hold notices will start being deployed on Friday, June 19.

Patrons with holds that are currently available at sidewalk pickup locations may come pick up their materials starting Friday, June 19.

The five locations available for sidewalk pickup are:

  • Main Library, Rockridge Branch, West Oakland Branch
  • Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • 81st Ave. Branch
  • Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • César E. Chávez Branch
  • Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • All other locations remained closed.

Outdoor book drops at all library branches are available for library materials to be returned. Library materials that were checked out prior to the closure are due by June 30. OPL does not charge fines for overdue library materials.

The Library continues to offer numerous services through its digital library, opens a new window, including e-books, audiobooks, streaming movies, and more. OPL patrons have checked out over 140,000 digital materials since closure began on March 16.
