Open Art Lab

Getting Started

 

Bring your project materials and any designs you plan to use. We provide basic tools like scissors, thread, needles, irons, and cutting mats.

  • Prewash fabric for apparel projects
  • Bring fabric, specialty thread, notions, cardstock, vinyl, or heat transfer vinyl (HTV)
  • Design files should be ready (Cricut Design Space is free)

Use our Brother FB1757X and Necchi NE30 sewing machines for basic repairs and all your sewing needs.

Use our Brother 1084D and Baby Lock Imagine BLE1AT-2 serger machines to finish seams with ease!

Cut vinyl, paper, and fabric with the Cricut Maker 4. Create custom decals, cards, stickers and intricate designs with precision cutting.

Cricut Heat Press

Make custom items with the Cricut Heat Press 12"x10". Apply vinyl transfers and iron-on designs to t-shirts, totes, and more.

Button Maker

Create custom pins with our button maker. Make buttons featuring your artwork, drawings, quotes, graphics and fun designs to wear or share.

Online Resources

Creativebug offers free projects, patterns and step-by-step tutorials for arts, crafts, and DIY enthusiasts.

Kanopy offers great beginner sewing videos. Each user receives up to 10 tickets a month to use towards streaming content.

Access digital magazines including Sewing for Beginners, Simply Sewing, and Quick & Easy Sewing Projects 

Access Cricut and Sewing e-books on Hoopla. Each user may borrow up to 6 titles per month.

  • Machine sign-ups are available in person on the day of use. We do not take phone reservations.

  • Please bring: 

    • Fabrics
    • Specialty thread or colors
    • Additional notions like buttons
    • Cardstock
    • Vinyl/HTVs
    • Your pattern/design


    Note: Cricut Design Space is free to use for creating designs. When using the Cricut Maker, please check that your design is marked as free.

  • Sign-ups are for 30 minutes or 1 hour depending on the machine. Session length depends on machine availability and whether there is a queue.

  • All materials in the Open Art Lab are for in-library use only.

  • We supply basic tools: 

    • Scissors/rotary cutter
    • Seam guide 
    • Black/white threads
    • Standard needles
    • Cutting mat and Cricut Mat
    • Chalk/Frixion pen
    • Iron and Ironing board
