December 2024 at OPL

Welcome to a decidedly delightful December at the Oakland Public Library! Join us in celebrating the re-opening of the Main Library in downtown Oakland, the holiday season, and the classic overcast Bay Area winter.

Main Library re-opens December 2nd and we're giving tours to show all the new improvements! Take a selfie with your book haul or in front of the freshly re-painted mural and tag us!

Winter Bingo is a fun family literacy activity recommended for kids ages 0-14. The game begins December 21, 2024 and ends January 21, 2025. Play!

Everybody knows the best thing about the holidays are holiday themed movies. Get in the holiday spirit with us at the César E. Chávez Branch with a Grinch double feature on December 29th at 3pm. We're also putting on a gingerbread making program series for kids and their families across several branches.

Eastmont branch is accepting donations of clean, new or gently used clothes, toys, or costumes starting Monday, November 18 in preparation for the kids clothing and toy swap on December 19th. Please consider donating if you can, showing up if you could use some free kids cloths and toys, or sharing with friends who may be interested.

Similarly, we'll also have a cozy winter mug swap on December 14th at the Piedmont Ave branch.

Kids can also celebrate the winter by participating in the Winter Solstice Youth Art Show at the Lakeview branch.  Kids and teens are invited to make their own artistic masterpieces with library provided supplies to exhibit through February at Lakeview.

Toward the end of the month, we'll release a year end recap and our staff favorites for 2024.

We have *hundreds* of events every single month happening across 17 branches, Main, and 3 specialty locations. We're barely scratching the surface here! Check out more programs and services.
