Oakland Youth Poet Laureate Alumni Showcase and Application Launch

We kicked off January with exciting performances from previous Oakland Youth Poet Laureates followed by a Q&A to get youth ready for the OYPL 2023 application which opened the same day. Applications close February 6, 2023. This event was cohosted by Nadia Elbgal (2022 Oakland Youth Poet Laureate) & Kaylan Black (2021 & 2022 Oakland Vice Youth Poet Laureate.)

Let's CantoTalk - Lunar New Year Edition!

Let's CantoTalk 港 · 廣東話 is an online 3 week introductory course for those who have no prior or very little experience with Cantonese. In this Lunar New Year Edition of Let's CantoTalk, we are exploring the traditions behind Lunar New Year and observances in Hong Kong. We will learn Cantonese pronunciation, tones, and simple vocabularies and phrases used during Lunar New Year in Hong Kong. Register Here.

The walk will be 2.5 hours and approximately 2-4 miles in length on an easy/moderate trail. We’ll explore the local area which is full of Yard and Garden Birds, walking alongside Sausal Creek in the Dimond Park area right next to the library.
