Welcome to ominous October at the Oakland Public Library! We're celebrating Tu Herencia, Dia De Los Muertos, and Halloween with fun arts & crafts programs, parties for all ages, and more! We host hundreds of free events every month so here are the highlights:
Tu Herencia
Join us for Sip & Remember where we will drink Oaxacan hot chocolate and learn about ancestral rituals. If you're in the mood for tabletop card games, then come play Afro-Loteria at the 81st Ave branch. 81st will also host a fiesta and a cultural crafting series in celebration of hispanic and latinx heritage.
Dia De Los Muertos
Every year we build a community altar to process grief collectively. Community members are invited to help decorate and add photos of loved ones to the altar at the 81st Ave branch. You can also celebrate Dia De Low Muertos at your local library branch with a sugar skull craft.
Halloween
We're just as excited about spooky season as you are! So excited that we're putting together book recommendations based on your favorite Halloween candy. (Details coming soon.) You can join us for several Halloween-themed programs including: Pumpkin Bouquet Centerpiece Making, arts & crafts series, creepy Oakland History tours, & the annual Rockridge Halloween Celebration on College Ave.
