Summer at the Library: Week Six

This week's theme, borrowed from the City of Oakland Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Development: Wet & Wild Week.

Okay, so we don't have a swimming pool at the library. Yet. But you could win passes to the Larry E. Reid Sports Center pool in East Oakland or the Lake Merritt Boating Center! And we do have a bunch of programs this week that you may find refreshing:

  • Meet a cold, wet nose: Paws to Read (@Dimond branch, Saturday 11:00) / Read to a Dog (@81st Avenue branch, Monday 12:30)
  • Watch out for wet paint: Open Studio for adult artists (@Rockridge, Tuesday 2:00) and Build. Make. Play. for kids
  • Ice Exploration is this week's Build. Make. Play. craft in the Children's Room (@Main Library, Wednesday 2:00)
  • Wet your whistle: Crafts & Mocktails (monthly program for adults) @Chavez branch, Sunday 2:00
  • Lots of other programs to beat the heat can be found on the (all ages) event calendar. Stay cool and hydrated -- and don't forget the sunscreen!

Learn about a new sea creature! Can you find a book, picture and video of the critter?

Enjoy the fun of playing with water: at the pool, in the bay, or in the kitchen sink. Water is an amazing resource that can teach us a lot!
