This week's theme, borrowed from the City of Oakland Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Development: Town Olympics.
Have a look at the prizes kids can win by reading and participating in library activities this summer. You might win tickets to an Oakland Roots or Oakland Ballers match, get to see the Golden State Warriors, or even watch a Bay FC soccer game from a special guests' box (transportation and snacks for your group of 4 included!). These local talents have made international names for themselves. You could even train for a special event yourself with passes to the Larry E. Reid Sports Center in East Oakland or free boat rentals from Lake Merritt Boating Center.
We're really moving at the library. This week:
- Afro-Peruvian dance (@Eastmont, Chavez, and Temescal branches)
- Fix-it clinics for your bike (@Main, King, and 81st Ave branches)
- Storytimes all around the system for bouncing babies, twirling toddlers, and active older kids, too
- Zumba, yoga, and more for all ages -- check out the full events calendar.
What type of games or sports do you like? What makes it fun?
Stay active this summer -- play outside and move your body. (Don't forget your hat, water bottle, and sunscreen!)
