It is so easy to get overwhelmed these days – by all the feelings, by all the to-do's, by our feeds, by the news. It can be hard to slow down, check in with yourself, and know how to take care or ask for help. We often feel like we should be able to handle our mental health on our own. But we want you to remember that mental health is a collective right and responsibility, not just an individual concern. When the world gets to be too much, we hope you reach out for the care and support you need. Here are a few resources to help you get started.
Youth Mental Health Resources Hub – California Health and Human Services gathers local and national hotlines that offer confidential and sensitive services via call, text, or message.
CA Youth Crisis Line – The CYCL operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to connect youth ages 12-24 with crisis intervention counseling and resource referrals to free and low-cost services local to where you live.
Soluna App – With the California Department of Health Care Services, Soluna offers free, confidential, and unlimited 1:1 mental health support with a mental health professional – no insurance required. The app also offers tools like a mood log, digital journal, goal-setting, and more. Don't have a smart phone? Soluna also offers over-the-phone coaching.
FindHelp – FindHelp is a database that helps you find local organizations with mental health resources (as well as food, housing, jobs, health care, financial assistance, etc.) specific to your zipcode.
Medito App – Medito is a 100% free meditation app that aims to help improve your mindfulness and self-compassion.
You Feel Like Sh*t – is an interactive website with a choose-your-own-adventure guide to help you practice self-care, especially if you struggle with decision-making and executive function.
Need a little space away from the internet? Take it offline with some bibliotherapy and check out one of our many books on mental health at Oakland Public Library.
