Local Haunts
Haunted Places in Oakland, California - Oakland and the surrounding area have quite a few haunted places to visit. This searchable site has a huge list, so makes a great starting point for finding some that might interest/spook you.
The Haunted Bay - Media students started this YouTube channel as they explored whether the Bay Area is really one of the most haunted places in the world and journeyed into the paranormal world interviewing mediums, famous haunted sites, and discovering less famous just as spooky local haunted spaces.
Ghost Stories and Legends of Alameda, Berkeley, and Oakland - You'll have to come to the Main Library to read this book, but it's a must read to get the information on many of our most haunted spots!
Halloween Entertainment
TeenZone of Terror - Join us if you dare... TeenZone of Terror presents a haunted carnival experience on Friday, October 31 from 1:00-5:00. Brave our guaranteed-to-scare haunted house, play carnival games, enjoy spooky snacks, take photos in our Halloween photobooth, and more.
Halloween Friday Nights at OMCA with Ritmos Tropicosmos - Spend Halloween evening at the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) with a DJ, trick-or-treating, storytelling, art making, a costume contest, and more. Free for all ages.
Driveway Follies - Free Halloween-themed marionette puppet shows from dusk till it's over on October 30 and 31.
Spooky Stories
The Oakland ghost and ancient phenomena, with a review of the Oakland committee - You can read this entire 39-page book online. Published in 1877, it is one man's official report of the ghostly happenings in his Oakland home in April of 1874. Start on page 11 if you want to skip the intro and get right to the creepy. Want to see it in person? Head to the Main Library and ask in the Oakland History Center.
Kanopy – Find some scary movies that you can stream for free with your library card on Kanopy.
