Second Start Adult Literacy Program
We offer free and confidential literacy services for adults.

Second Start Learners
Second Start Adult Literacy and Learning serves adults 18 and older, as well as 16-17-year-olds not enrolled in high school who:
- Speak and understand English well enough to communicate with staff and tutors
- Are not in college or have previously attended without success
- Need help with reading, writing, spelling, or math
- Can meet with a tutor at least once a week for six months
- Personally make the decision to join Second Start
- * Complete an assessment to confirm Second Start is the right program for you.

Second Start Volunteer Tutors
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Speak English well enough to communicate with learners and staff
- Successfully complete tutor training
- possess excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills
- Understand Second Start’s mission and work
- Commit to meeting with a learner 3 hours per week for a minimum of six months
