Starting Your Own Garden

Rebekah Eppley, OPL Librarian, Branch Manager, Dimond Library

I’ve been a librarian at the Oakland Public Library since 2010—but my love of gardening long predates this. As a child, it was a treat to help my mother plant her garden and harvest fresh vegetables later in the season. I love to put my hands in the soil and see what grows. I carried that love of gardening into my adult years and started gardening with my partner several years ago. When I started my career as a librarian at the Dimond branch, my colleagues and I created a seed library that I’ve managed ever since. I collected the resources below to learn more about gardening, seed saving and all of the gardening events and practices happening around Oakland—and I still rely on them often. They are a great starting place if you're looking to start your own garden.
