Welcome to joyous July at the Oakland Public Library! This month we’re celebrating Disability Pride Month, the 250th anniversary of the United States, and the phenomenal progress everyone is making on their summer reading goals!
Here’s a few happenings you can look forward to this month:
Teen Zine Club
Jazz on Sundays
Decolonized Kitchen
(Various locations and dates)
Gather in community to learn about indigenous foodways, ethnobotany, and cooking. Educator Maribel Garcia teaches about native plants, one recipe at a time. Enjoy a discussion, a presentation, and a cook-along.
Garden Playdates
Test Your U.S. History Knowledge!
The United States Semiquincentennial is the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. Come test your knowledge of US history and civics by trying your luck with your friends at this trivia event, featuring selections from the Citizenship Test. Winning team members will win a special OPL canvas bag!
Kamishibai Paper Theater
Erica will bring her paper theater to present stories from various countries. Just like the bicycle-based kamishibaiya who brought stories to parks & street-corners in Japan during the 1930s, Erica will serve tasty treats when the stories end.
July is Disability Pride Month. Celebrate and learn with one of these great books!
