June 2025

Welcome to jubilant June at the Oakland Public Library! Your Summer with OPL is just starting! This month, we're also celebrating LGBTQIA+ Pride, Juneteenth, and Caribbean American Heritage Month. We offer hundreds of FREE events every month that are open to the public. Here's just a quick snapshot!

Summer reading is finally here!!!

That also means free lunch at your library (for ages 0-18 at participating locations).

Remember, summer reading (May 24 - August 2, 2025) is open to all ages. To emphasize this point, we even made a super cool gameboard you can track your progress with!

To win prizes, make sure you sign up on Beanstack and log your reads and other library activities you've completed.

Fix It Clinics

We specifically designed these summer reading programs for adults! We know how important upcycling and reducing waste is to our patrons. That's why we're offering a few different repair clinic series - one for laptops, another one for phones, and a more general clinic for miscellaneous items.

Metalsmithing for Teens

Teens can pick up a new hobby, learn a new skill, and make their own jewelry in this 2 hour metalsmithing workshop! (Offered at various library branches.)

Insect Discovery Lab

Children learn about the diverse world of insects and arthropods from experts at SaveNature.org. (Offered at various library branches.)
