What's the Hoopla about? Hoopla is a on-demand streaming service for eBooks, audiobooks, digital comics, movies, tv shows, and music. No holds, no waiting; just content when you want it. You can checkout up to 8 items per month with your library card.
Hoopla can be a little confusing when you first start. Here's how to get through those first hoop(la)s:
Hoopla materials appear when you search the OPL collection. However, you check out these books through the Hoopla website or mobile app. Registering requires your library card number and setting an email and password on the Hoopla site.
- Select "Oakland Public Library from the list of libraries and enter your library card number and hit "next".
- Enter an email and password, then hit "Complete Registration".
And you're done! You'll get an email confirmation and you can immediately check out Hoopla items.
Hoopla Head-Scratchers
Hold up, I checked out a Hoopla item, but it's not showing up in my checked out library items -?
Hoopla items are checked out directly through the Hoopla site so they will not appear in your library account. These will appear under your Currently Borrowed, opens a new window items in Hoopla.
How will I know when to return items?
Hoopla items are returned automatically on their due date. An item's due date will always appear on your Currently Borrowed, opens a new window list.
Can I download Hoopla materials?
You can stream or view Hoopla materials on a desktop computer or laptop, but you can only download items using the Hoopla app (on Apple, opens a new window,Google, opens a new window, or Kindle, opens a new window).
