Photography and Filming Policy

The Oakland Public Library may photograph, film, or record library programs, events, and activities for promotional, archival, and reporting purposes. Images and recordings may be used in library publications, websites, social media channels, newsletters, presentations, grant reports, and other communications materials.

Attendance at library programs or use of library spaces where photography or videography is taking place constitutes consent to be photographed, filmed, or recorded and to the use of those images or recordings by the library without compensation.

The library recognizes that some individuals may not wish to be photographed or recorded. Anyone who prefers not to appear in photographs or videos should notify library staff upon arrival at the event or location. Parents, guardians, and caregivers are responsible for notifying library staff if they do not wish for their child to be photographed or recorded.

Staff will make reasonable efforts to honor such requests, but there is no guarantee. Individuals who do not wish to be photographed or recorded are responsible for taking reasonable precautions such as avoiding areas where photography or videography is taking place or stepping out of camera range.

At large public events, crowded gatherings, or group activities, it may not be possible to avoid capturing specific attendees in photographs or video recordings. While the library will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests, it cannot guarantee that individuals will not appear incidentally in photographs, videos, or recordings.

Public Photography and Recording Guidelines

Photography, filming, or recording by members of the public is generally permitted in public areas of the library, provided it does not interfere with library operations, programs, patron privacy, or the safe use of library facilities.

Filming, photography, or recording for commercial, promotional, or media purposes is permitted only with prior authorization from the Library. Please contact Tarshel Beards to obtain the necessary permissions.
