Welcome to festive February at the Oakland Public Library! There's so much to celebrate and we have HUNDREDS of events every month. So here's the highlights!
For Black History Month:
Get your books in at our Black Culture Family Read-Ins or our Special storytime and meet & greet with two-time NBA champion, Clifford Ray! We're also hosting the artist reception for winners of OPL's library card art contest on the 3rd, where you can sign up and get the new limited-edition library card designs two days early! (Check out OPL's virtual exhibit to see more library card art celebrating African Americans and the Arts.) And speaking of art exhibits - the African American Museum and Library of Oakland published a blog about the collective memory of Oakland's Black art galleries. Read it here.
For Lunar New Year:
Join us for wonderful Lunar New Year Celebration with a lion dance performance, crafts, and more! Afterward, you can take home some books about the Year of the Dragon for the kids to read.
For Valentines Day:
The Shrine of Broken is accepting your relics from heartbreaks to turn into a communal shrine and zine. And our social media pages we'll share corny, librarian virtual Valentines day cards for you to giggle over with your book bestie.
What are you most excited for this month? Get upcoming event details here.
